Hey there! I'm Kevin, a seasoned entrepreneur and devoted real estate enthusiast, and I would like to share with you my journey which reads like a whirlwind adventure through the dynamic world of entrepreneurship and real estate investing.
I can vividly recall my first deal, an opportunity I regrettably passed up almost 25 years ago. A coworker was selling his father’s duplex in my hometown of Cornwall, Ontario for $34,000.00. I couldn’t muster the down payment and failed to grasp the potential wealth that would elude me. At the time, I told myself that there would always be another deal, I had a good job, and there was no urgency to invest.
To this day, I reflect on that missed opportunity, wondering about the wealth I could have built and the properties I could have acquired by leveraging that one or first deal. Astonishingly, the current annual gross rent of that property now exceeds its asking price in 2001!
Instead, I adhered to the conventional wisdom imparted by my peer group—work hard, excel in your field, collect a comfortable salary, benefits, and a pension.
My 20 year paramedic career was diverse, from working on the road and up in the sky as a flight medic, to mentoring peers and teaching college students. Climbing the ranks to the Commander position, I garnered memories (some good and some bad), a Governor General's Medal for Exemplary Service, and a valuable skill set that continues to provide benefit to me and my clients today.
Beyond my primary career, I ventured into side hustles as a pig farmer and an automotive repair franchisee – topics we should delve into in a future blog. I then shifted from paramedicine to a full-time mortgage agent when I surpassed my salary which marked a pivotal moment. With over 20 working and salaried years in the rearview, I left behind a career marked with highs, lows, and valuable friendships.
I am now better known for navigating the challenges inherent in real estate investing, I bring a harmonious blend of determination and compassion to my clients, adeptly handling deals, complex situations, and negotiations.
My current pursuits and day-to-day work is now dedicated to helping like-minded investors earn a return through both active and passive real estate investments. This includes helping our clients grow their portfolio with strategic acquisitions and finaincing as well as offering a passive investment vehicle through private capital partnerships to support our inhouse projects.
I am also the owner and Principal Broker of MortgageWell® – a visionary brokerage with platform designed to empower mortgage agents and brokers, liberating them from the constraints of high franchise and administrative fees. MortgageWell transcends being merely a business; it stands as a testament to my dedication to fostering autonomy and helping mortgage agents succeed in growing their businesses.
Furthermore, I hold a Realtor's license with eXp. This ensures that we remain on the forefront with valuable market data and promotes synergistic relationships with other Realtors and other industry professionals.
The narrative, however, doesn't end there. I am also a co-founder of TrueCon General Contractors Ltd. Born out of necessity to ensure timely projects and quality of work, we now better control and oversee our construction projects.
